What is prednisone?
Prednisone belongs to a group of drugs called corticosteroids. Prednisone is used to prescribe mainly to avoid the discharge of a substances in the body, which causes inflammation. Prednisone is used in many treatments such as in treating asthma, skin allergies, allergic disorders, lupus, in treating arthritis, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis and also in treating breathing problems and disorders.
If you are allergic to prednisone you not be taking this for your medication, because this will cause serious fungus infection in many parts of the body. It is best to tell your doctor about your medical situations and the medicines you are taking such as other steroid medicines.
Prednisone Side effects
The side effects of prednisone ranges from short term to long term side effects. Some of the short term side effects are euphoria, mania and insomnia. Some of the long term side effects are sudden weight gain, cataracts, depression, glaucoma, osteoporosis. The following are the side effects which is mostly noticed in patients,
- Feeling very difficulty in sleeping
- Feeling appetite always in short duration
- Feeling irregular or whirling motion
- More sweating
- Feeling indigestive.
- Feeling nervousness always.
Some of the allergic reactions which are severe are,
- Rashes and itching in parts of the body
- Some kind of tightness feeling in the chest
- In mouth there may be swelling occurs
- For women there may be changes in menstrual cycle
- Causes tarry stools
Feeling vomiting, soreness in throat, pain in the joints and muscles, getting fever and cold frequently, feeling dizziness and discomfort in body are some of the other side effects of prednisone.
Prednisone affects the eyes in short term, but it is one of the best life saving drug, also doctors treat these side effects periodically by analyzing the symptoms and the reactions of it, also patients must avoid consuming alcohol while you are having prednisone, try to avoid being with patients who are sick and have some sort of infections. You should not receive and live vaccines while you are undergoing treatment with prednisone. Because these vaccines will not work when you are taking steroid medicines. Finally the medicine should be stored in room temperature.
