What is omeprazole and why is it used for?
Omeprazole is used mainly in the stomach related diseases treatment, because it reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Omeprazole belongs to a category of drugs called proton pump inhibitors. It is a widely prescribed drug all over the world and it is available in all the countries mostly. It is used to treat erosive esophagitis and symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease. Erosive esophagitis is nothing but a damage caused by stomach acid in esophagus. Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a kind of condition happening due to the reverse flow of acid from the stomach which leads to heartburn, and omeprazole is meant to take for instant relief of hearburn and its symptoms.
Omeprazole should be taken before eating usually. And also it should be swallowed with a glass full of water, you should not break, or crush the tablet. There is a additional coating over the tablet there, which is to protect the stomach. If you are taking the powder, then mix it with a cup of water before you use. For dosage it depends upon the stage and your treatment, if you miss anytime any dosage, you can have it as soon as when you remember. Avoid taking overdose, it leads to nausea, drowsiness etc. Also inform the doctor about the drugs you are currently taking for other issues, as there are some medicines should be not taking omeprazole. And complete the number of tablets prescribed by the doctor correctly without leaving a single tablet, even if you feel you are recovered completely from the problem.

There are some allergic reactions caused due to the side effects of omeprazole, following are some of the examples,

- Urinating in dark color
- Rashes appearing in the body
- Strained voice
- Tiredness
- Unusual heartbeat rates
- Chest becomes tight and painful
- Throat becomes sore
- Swelling occurs in feet, hands, ankles, mouth, tongue, lips and face
- Changes in vision
- Yellowish eyes
- Stomach pain
- Peeling skin
- Muscle spasm
- Wheezing trouble
